Avocado-Soybean Unsaponifiables for Arthritis Pain?

Get me an avocado, snorkle, and an ice pack?

A fairly recent meta-analysis published in the journal, Osteoarthritis Cartilage (Christensen et al, 2008) found that avocado soybean unsaponifiables (ASU) may help to relieve pain from arthritis.

In this review, they suggested a daily dose of 300 mg ASU for 3 months as a trial.

The number needed to treat (NNT) was six.

What's interesting is that this supplement was more effective for patients with knee as opposed to hip arthritis.
